What Makes Texas Hold'em Unique?

There are three known variations of poker. These are Stud, Draw, and Flop games. In Flop games, there are more variants, such as the Omaha and the Pineapple. Among these Flop games, the variant that demands the greatest of skills and knowledge is the Texas Hold'em. This is why Texas Hold'em is the game used in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) to determine the ultimate poker champion.

Aside from the lure of becoming a poker celebrity, Texas Hold'em has four distinct features that actually attract lots of players. These features made Texas Hold'em a sought after poker game in many casinos and card rooms. Here are the features:

Texas Hold'em reduces the number of starting hands.

When playing Texas Hold'em, the poker player need not make distinctions between an Ace of Spades and an Ace of Diamonds. This is because all suits are equal. A pair consisting of a Jack of Spades and a Jack of Hearts is equal to a pair consisting of a Jack of Diamonds and a Jack of Clubs. Such a rule in Texas Hold'em has reduced the number of possible starting hands to just 169 unique combinations.

Texas Hold'em makes the position of the players permanent.

Position is important in poker because of the sequence of betting. That is, the player in the small blind position must always make the first bet. This is followed by the player in the big blind position. And then followed by the player to the left of the big blind, and so on. Most of the time, poker players find it advantageous to be the last person to make the bet. To "distribute" this advantage, other poker variants change the position of players during the game. But in Texas Hold'em, the position is fixed. That is the small blind will always be the small blind until the end of the poker session.

Texas Hold'em allows nuts.

The "nuts" refers to the highest possible hand that a player can form when he combines his pocket cards with the community cards. When a player has the nuts, he is sure that no one can beat him. And when he has the nuts, the player can bet and raise to the maximum limit, knowing that he is just fattening the pot that will eventually go to him.

Texas Hold'em is a winner-takes-all game.

The poker player who has the highest ranked hand is the only winner of the Texas Hold'em game. There will be no rules that allow the contents of the pot to be divided among the players, except when two players are holding exactly identical cards.
